Youth Attack - Drake and Whait
 

Hero Henry Steals the Show

A dynamic performance from Henry Whait stole the show as Syston comfortably beat Melton Town to take them off the bottom of the divison.

Syston were bowling first and there were memories of Melton falling for just 63 last season but the visitors were not in the mood to let that happen again. Tom Corbett accounted for the opening wicket of P. Hood and history appeared to be repeating its self. However R Cooksey (62) was determind to frustrate the Syston bowling and dug deep for his 50. At the other end though wickets continued to fall as George Corbett picked up 3 wickets. However Melton were creeping towards a competitive total and it took a moment of brillance to turn the game into Syston's favour. From the bowling of Robin Marston. Whait took an exceptional one handed catch on the mid on boundary - taking the ball whilst mid air, the ball behind his body. The next ball Tom Corbett also took a one handed catch again from Marston as Syston turned the. Corbett came on to bowl again to clean up the tail to also end with 3 wickets.

In reply Syston sent in an opening pair with the combined age of 30! Ben Drake and hero of the hour Whait set about dystroying the Melton bowling attack, scoring freely and making use of the fast outfield. Whait was first to his 50, taking just 46 ball whilst Drake was happy to play the supporting role. Whait was finally bowled by Culy for 66 but this only spured Drake on who then powered towards 77 before also falling to Culy. But the damage had already been done with Syston just needing 15 runs for victory, Vij Linus and George Corbett saw Syston home to victory.
