Syston Perform In The "Short Stuff"
Syston emerged winners in two "shorter version" cup competitions this weekend, comfortably progressing to the semi finals in the County Twenty20 Cup on Bank Holiday Monday. On Thursday evening John Mills led his men to victory in the Loughborough Evening KO Cup against Shepshed Town.
Leicestershire Twenty20 Cup - Facing both Stoughton & Thurnby and Narborough & Littlethorpe in the group stages, Syston ran out comfortable winners in both matches despite the cold and windy conditions. The first match against Stoughton was a one sided afair. Both Raja Hayat and Waqas Akhter crashing half centuries, posting a total of 183 which Stoughton never looked like reaching. The second match against Narborough was much the same, Raja scoring another half century.
The team can now look forward to finals day on Bank Holiday (May 31st) where they will face any of the other finalists - Kibworth, Leicester Ivanhoe or Barrow. The final is held at Kibworth with the overall winners of the competition representing Leicestershire in the national Twenty20 cup.
Loughborough Evening KO Cup - The heavy scoring continued on Thursday evening with Mike Peacock, Tom Corbett and John Mills scoring freely against Shepshed Town. Defending 143 from 14, 8 ball overs, the task was made easier with 6 tight overs from Scott Cooper and Alan Beynon. Peter Short and Charlie Taylor picked up a wicket a piece but it was the overseas who completed the victory taking 5 wickets in just 15 balls as Shepshed struggled to 74 from their 14 overs.
Loughborough Town or Loughborough Carillon 2nd XI are the next visitors to Potters Lane on Thursday, May 20th.
