Jordan Holmes breaks Syston hearts |

Last Over Heartache For Syston In t20
Jordan Holmes stole victory from the jaws of defeat as Kegworth smashed an improbable 18 runs from the final over to secure their place at finals day in the Leicestershire t20 competition. Earlier Syston had clawed back the match after posting a below par 127 from their 20 overs.
Batting first Syston had an early let off as Raja Hayat was dropped on just 6. However Hayat didn’t make Kegworth pay and was bowled two overs later for 20 by Jordan Holmes. None of the top 5 Syston batsmen could build on their starts and it wasn’t until Tom Corbett took to the field that the innings started to take shape. Corbett hung around to frustrate the Kegworth bowlers and top scored with 41 not out and showed / attempted a vast array of shots. Mo Khan (20) joined in the fun midway and together he and Corbett took Syston past 100 – Syston eventually limping to 127-8.
In reply Syston pegged back the batting attack with Bilal Pardesi and Raja Hayat bowling tight lines and after 7 overs Kegworth had barely reached 30. Pete Howard then joined the attack to remove the Kegworth middle order and seemingly move the match into Systons favour. Indeed with Kegworth needing more than 10 an over from the last 4 overs it looked like Syston had it in the bag, the run out of Simon Bird (22) made this even more the case. But this only allowed Holmes to take the spotlight and crash home the final blows from the bowling of Scott Cooper. Syston’s bid for t20 glory ended after just one game as Kegworth now go to Kibworth and finals day in 4 weeks time.
